Base64 Encoder / Decoder
Convert text to Base64 and back, with full UTF-8 support for any language and emoji. Choose standard Base64 or URL-safe Base64URL — malformed input is flagged, never silently changed.
Standard Base64 uses + and / and ends with = padding when needed. Base64 is an encoding, not encryption — anyone can decode it, so don’t use it to hide passwords or secrets.

How to use Base64 Encoder / Decoder
- 1
Choose a mode and alphabet
Select Encode or Decode, then Standard Base64 (+ and /) or Base64URL (- and _), which is used in URLs and tokens such as JWTs.
- 2
Enter your input
Type or paste text to encode, or Base64 to decode, up to 5 MB. “Load example” fills in a sample.
- 3
Convert and copy
Select Encode or Decode, then copy the output — or use it as the input to convert it back.
Frequently asked questions
What is Base64?
Base64 represents data using 64 printable characters (A–Z, a–z, 0–9, + and /), so it can travel safely through systems built for text — for example data URLs, email attachments and APIs. It makes data about a third larger.
Is Base64 encryption?
No. Base64 is an encoding, not encryption or password protection. Anyone can decode it, so never use it to hide passwords or secrets.
Does it support Hindi, emoji and other languages?
Yes. Text is converted to UTF-8 bytes before encoding, and decoded bytes must be valid UTF-8, so any language and emoji round-trip exactly — including spaces, tabs and line breaks.
What is the difference between Base64 and Base64URL?
Base64URL is a URL-safe variant that uses - and _ instead of + and /, and usually leaves out the = padding. It’s used in URLs, file names and tokens such as JWTs. Choose the alphabet that matches your data — each mode rejects the other’s characters instead of guessing.
Why does my Base64 show an error?
The decoder is strict: it reports characters outside the alphabet, = in the wrong place, missing or wrong padding and cut-off data, with the position where possible. Spaces and line breaks are allowed and ignored. If the Base64 is valid but contains an image or another file rather than text, you can download the decoded file instead.
Is my data sent to a server?
No. Encoding and decoding happen in your browser, so your text stays on your device.
